Paint your wagon
March 16th, 2016 6:10 pm
Poppy has the first few coats of paint on her roof and around the windows., she is starting to look more and more like she will make it for volksworld, however nerves are still frayed in the office here.  The seconds are ticking away on the countdown towards Volksworld 2016

Paint Prep
March 15th, 2016 5:34 pm
The mechanical work is all done, although Poppy has a temporary engine in whilst we await a new one off the production line via VW Heritage

John and his team now have Poppy back in their arch and the final preparation for her paint work is being done.  As always making the surg=face as smooth as possible is the key to getting the best possible finish for the paintwork.

preperation is the key

The pressure is now on as we need Poppy completed by the end of March so that we can get her into a 5 van display with the volkswagen Type 2 Owners Club at this years volksworld show on the 2nd and 3rd April.  Can it happen in just 2 weeks? we have no nails left in the office as we are steadily chewimg them down to the knuckle at the moment.

Rolling Rolling Rolling
February 26th, 2016 2:02 pm
Poppy is coming along in leaps and bounds at the moment, after a long period when progress was occurring but a lot of it was preparation, she is now starting to look very close to being ready.

Poppys rear suspension in place

Viadas at Jacks Garage informed me last night that her Gearbox is ready to fit and that the rolling and running gear is all in place along with most of the wiring.

The current plan is that the mechanics will be fully fitted by next Friday (4th March) and then back into John's arch for her final respray and fitting up.
It is starting to look like a gangster movie now

Whilst the boys at Jacks Garage are working hard to get Poppy's body work and mechanics ready, we have started to repair and refurbish the internal cabinets back at the office.

Why would anyone apply a pink carpet ?

It is sad to see that her origonal Moonraker interior has suffered over the past 44 years, with some delightful pink carpet applied to the rear seat (no it's a mystery to us as well) and some of the veneer has suffered over the years.  Thanks to SL Hardwoods we have managed to get a new set of Oak Quarter cut veneers to repair the damage and also some rather amazing impact adhesive (so far I have amanged to stick myself to the floor a total of two times over the weekend,)

The funniest thing is that in order to protect the floors in the office, we have laid plastic sheeting all over them and it feels like we have just got ready for a gangster style hit on someone (apart from the walls are uncovered for the moment)
Poppy is in the mechanical bay
February 15th, 2016 3:33 pm
It is starting to get real now, after a year of waiting Poppy is in the mechanical arch and Viadas and Simon are starting to create a list of all of the parts needed to complete her mechanically.
Poppy in the Mechanical Bay

There are a number of items on the must have list including a new SSP engine from VW Heritage, a rebuilt gearbox with overdrive and the one thing that makes life easier for all of our clients, a single set of matching keys for all of her locks.

Viadas has estimated that it will take about 2 weeks to refit the mechanics to Poppy and it will be interesting to see her moving using her own power again after so long off the road.
